Container: Leakproof plastic container

Specimen Collection: 5 grams or 5 mL (minimum 1 gram)

  1. Collect a random stool specimen in a clean leakproof plastic container.
  2. Store and transport refrigerated.

Specimen Transport/Stability

Room Temp: 2 hour for fresh stools

Refrigerated: 14 days for fresh stools

Specimen Rejection

Preserved stool specimen.

Maximum Laboratory Time

24 - 48 hours

Reference Ranges

Lactoferrin, Fecal by Immunochromatography  Negative               

A positive result is indicative of the presence of lactoferrin, a marker for fecal leukocytes. A negative result does not exclude the presence of intestinal inflammation.
