Specimen Requirements

Preferred Container:  RED TOP 

Alternate Container:  Lithium Heparin

** NO Clot Activated Tubes, ie: Yellow or SST **

Specimen Collection: 1 mL (minimum 0.6 mL)

1. Allow specimen to clot completely.
2.  For Red Top tube collection, separate serum from cells within 1 hour and place in separate plastic tube and refrigerate.
3. For Plasma tube (Lithium Heparin), separate from cells within 1 hour and transport refrigerated.
4. If testing will be delayed > 48 hours store frozen.
5. Properly label tube with patient's name, DOB, requisition number and type of tube, i.e.  Red Top.
