Specimen Requirements

KOH (SKIN, HAIR NAILS)

Container: Sterile plastic container or swab

Specimen Collection:

1. Specify source and include any pertinent clinical information.
2. Nail and Skin: Nail scrapings should be from subsurface portion of the infected nail. Skin should be taken from active border of lesion.
3. Hair for dermatophytes: Place hair, including base of shaft, in sterile plastic container.
4. Other Specimens: Submit in screw-capped leakproof plastic container or swab in culturette.
