Specimen Requirements

Do not transport in pneumatic tube system (body fluids are irretrievable specimens).

          Container/Tube: Syringe, Tube or Collection Bag

Specimen Volume:  > 10 mL and < 500 mL (minimum volume: 10 mL) of body fluid

Collection Instructions: 

1. Collect body fluid in syringe, tube or collection bag.

2. Remove needle and cap syringe. Do NOT send syringe with needle attached.

3. Label syringe, tube or collection bag with patient’s legal name, date of birth,  & date and time of collection.

4. Complete the Cytology Requistion and make sure to included the specimen source.

5. Inpatient Departments Hand deliver to laboratory promptly. (Do not send in pneumatic tube system).
